The Simmering Sax of Steve Cole

Since the sensational 1998 release of his debut record, “Stay Awhile,” produced by fellow Chicagoan Brian Culbertson, saxophonist Steve Cole has been a busy man. He’s produced seven albums containing multiple No.1 hits and radio favorites, received the Oasis Smooth Jazz Award for best new artist, played in concerts around the world, and performed/recorded with Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Larry Carlton and Jeff Lorber among many others.

He has also been a featured soloist with the City of Prague Orchestra, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and is a founding member of live-concert favorites The Sax Pack, the renowned sax trio that includes Marcus Anderson and Jeff Kashiwa.

On his new release, “Pulse,” Steve delivers a smoothly dynamic mix of R&B, contemporary jazz, gospel, blues and pop that he produced with fellow sax man David Mann. In our conversation you’ll hear his smart, fun ideas about how to handle your musical career like an entrepreneur, what motivates and inspires him and tracks from his terrific new CD, “Pulse.”
