Danish-born saxophonist Michael Lington has always played with a lot of soul. With his latest release, Soul Appeal, he dives head first into the roots of that sound and breathes new life into the 60’s and 70’s Memphis Soul music that inspired him as a young musician. In his eighth studio album Lington and his producer Barry Eastmond have written and created original music that embodies the vibe and flavor of the era.
It was this kind of American Soul music that stirred the teen-age Lington in Copenhagen to put down his clarinet and pick up the saxophone. Hear Michael talk about his transition from Denmark to L.A., how American R&B lit the fire in him to make the move and hear songs from his new jazz/soul CD, Soul Appeal, by clicking on the player above.
